Brain Driver – Car Driven by Brain Interface – Breakthrough in Technology
In the video below, the driver is wearing an Emotiv EEG (electroencephalography) sold by San Francisco-based company Emotiv. The device is primarily intended for gaming -- although some say it may not be ideal for fast applications like today's computer games. Similarly, the human-machine interface shown in the video is clearly not ready for the racetrack.
However, similar EEG-based sensors that do not rely on brain surgery to place sensors may soon find their use in several fields of robotics, such as the control of exoskeletons and prosthetics.
Rojas group's work with this newly emerging technology is part of the MadeInGermany project and follows previous work on autonomous cars, such as his AutoNOMOS Project.
